Victorian

Project Objective: To positively identify and report on the Victorian.
The Victorian is fairly typical of scuttled ships in the graveyard – she appears to have been well stripped and was probably only a hulk on scuttling. Bow and stern rise around 4m from the seabed with the amidships lying flat.

Ship History: The Victorian was a 225.8 ft, 415 ton, iron steamer built in 1876, by D&W Henderson in Glasgow, Scotland with the official number 74779 . Owned by the Adelaide Steamship Co. She carried general cargo and passengers. Towards the end of her career she become a Coal Hulk working in both Townsville and later on Mpelbourne.

She was scuttled in the ships’ graveyard 8th May 1925.

Project Status: On-water searches have discovered what we believe is the Victorian about 9nm south of Point Nepean in about 72m of sea water. Further dives are required in order to positively identify the ship.
