Vicalen Jet Boat

Project Objective: To locate boat and report the position.

Company History: 
Vicalen Jets were pioneers and leaders in Australian Jet powered boats in the 1970’s, 1980’s through to the 1990s, based locally at 11-13 Kareela St, Mordialloc VIC.
Vicalen was a serious option to the much larger Hamilton Jet Company who have been around since 1939. 
In 1985 Vicalen Jets Pty Ltd received a grant of $7,697- from the Australian Industrial Research and Development Incentives Board.

The Final Voyage:
On Melbourne Cup Day – Tuesday 7th November 1972 the owner of Vicalen Jets was test driving a boat fitted with a prototype Vicalen propulsion system when the engine caught fire and the boat burnt to water line and sank off Brighton Boat ramp.  

Project Status: Initial on water searches based on information provided by the owners son had proved unsuccessful. Further investigations have lead to SOE changing the search location further  of the existing boat ramp.
